As an all-in-one animation team, I’m proud to be able to help out on projects from start to finish, or jump in part way through.
So let’s demystify the process
We start off with a good chat about what your wishes and needs are for your project and how I can help bring them to life.
We’ll discuss things like
What the core focus and information is that we need to lead our decision making.
Whether we are using existing brand guidelines or creating unique designs compatible with your previous styles.
Who your target audience is.
Buget and timeline.
References and influences you’ve seen and enjoy.
What happens once we’ve decided to work together?
Once we pull the trigger on our collaboration and have a timeline in place, I will provide a production schedule outlining key points. These will consist of moments of opportunity for input, feedback and decisions, when I will share options or work in progress.
In most cases the pipeline will look like this
Script: If there will be voice over there will need to be a script and this will be what the rest of the film is built upon.
Design: Figuring out the visual storytelling and language
Storyboard: Deciding how the story will be told sequentially. How we move through a scene or transition from one scene to the next. How we communicate the information visually.
Animatic: Using the storyboard to begin mapping out the movement to create a very rough idea of how picture and sound work together.
Animation: Making everything move.
Colouring: Applying colours and textures to the movement
Sound: Adding sound effects and music alongside the voice over(if there is one)
And there you have it, your project is completed and ready to share with audiences far and wide!
How much will it cost? The overall budget will depend on a few factors.
How long the film is.
How complex the movement and design are.
How long I have to make it.
The wonderful thing about animation is its versatility and it’s ability to convey information and emotion even with the simplest of lines. We can explore design options that fit your budget without sacrificing quality.
Ever wanted to commission a piece of animation but weren't sure how you could get multiple ratios without multiplying your budget and timeline? Well I can promise you it is in fact possible!
It's pretty common these days to need a vertical video for socials, but we still really want and use good ol' horizontal videos for websites and other platforms.
With a bit of planning in the design and storyboard stages, we can make decisions which will allow us to reframe the same animation for a variety of dimensions.
In the example below, I worked with a square canvas whilst always thinking about the vertical and horizontal centre lines. This meant that once all the animation was completed I could crop the image to the desired ratio and, with a few small reframing nudges here and there, export everything I needed.
