Nicola Jane Francis is a London-based character animator with a passion for narrative. Since graduating from MA Character Animation at Central St Martins’ and BA Animation at London College of Communication, Nicola has been fortunate to work as an independent director on self-produced projects, and as a freelancer in top London studios.

Her co-directed project ‘The Gigantic Change’, a co-production between Passion Animation Studios and Extinction Rebellion, was released in Summer 2020 and received great reviews for both its execution and message.

Clients have included Dulwich Picture Gallery, The Children’s Society, The English National Opera, FREED at Maudsley Hospital, The Horniman Museum, SSAFA with Kartoffel Films production company, and Mont Blanc.

Studio projects have included two episodes of Netflix’s 'Headspace series with Strange Beast, commercial projects with Seed Animation, TED Talks with Studio Desk, and a short piece with Nomint for a designer fashion brand.

Nicola has had the pleasure to animate for Director Hannah Jacobs on multiple occasions. She has also worked alongside Director Mariam Abid Majid to create animation for the South Bank Centre and an installation in the Pakistan Pavilion at Somerset House during London Design Biennale. Director Danny Patrick to create the title sequence for feature film ‘Requiem for a fighter’. And Director Cristina Balduin, contributing an animated sequence for an NGO short documentary.

Personal achievements include short film ‘Love Always’ featuring in London Short Film Festival in 2016 and ‘Instances of Grief’ being shortlisted for the NOVA Awards 2019.
